The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined from Hoffenheim in the summer, underwent emergency appendix surgery, ruling him out for the foreseeable future, the club have confirmed.
"Tom Bischof is out of action for the time being after having his appendix removed," Bayern announced via their official English X account. "Get well soon, Tom! We hope to see you back in action soon!"
The procedure, described as urgent by the club, has left fans and the team awaiting further updates on his recovery timeline. Reports from trusted sources suggest Bischof could miss action until the first international break in September.
Bischof had shown promise during Bayern's pre-season, catching the eye with his versatility and composure. The German international, capable of playing as a number 10, holding midfielder, or on the wings, made his first official appearances for Bayern in the FIFA Club World Cup and the Franz Beckenbauer-Supercup.
His move from Hoffenheim, initially a free transfer, was finalized with a small fee to ensure his eligibility for the Club World Cup, highlighting Bayern's high hopes for the young star.
Head coach Vincent Kompany, speaking ahead of the Leipzig clash, acknowledged the squad's injury challenges but remained optimistic. "We have a strong group, and we'll adapt," he said, also noting that Aleksandar Pavlovic has returned to training after a facial injury but isn't yet match-ready.
With Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito also sidelined long-term, Bayern's depth will be tested early.
As Bayern gear up for a tough opener against Leipzig, Kompany will likely turn to Serge Gnabry to fill the creative void in midfield. Bischof, meanwhile, faces a race against time to return and make his mark in a star-studded squad.
