Bayern Munich coach Kompany backs red-hot Harry Kane to punish PSG

Harry Kane has been praised as a player reaching new heights, with Vincent Kompany insisting the Bayern Munich forward was still improving ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in Paris tonight.

Kane enters the tie in outstanding form, having scored 12 goals in 11 Champions League matches this season. Across all competitions, he had struck 53 times in 45 appearances, underlining his importance to Bayern's attacking threat.

Kompany made it clear that Kane's evolution had gone beyond simply scoring goals. "He was always an incredible goal-scorer," the Bayern coach said. "He could score from anywhere - headers, left foot, right foot, long distance."

However, Kompany highlighted the striker's all-round contribution as the biggest difference since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

"What we see more now is his distribution, his work rate for the team, and his game intelligence," Kompany explained. "To combine that with his numbers is not easy. You have to help the team progress and still arrive in the box."

He added: "Maybe that side of his game was underestimated before, but he is ageing like fine wine, and we are enjoying that."

Bayern return to Paris with confidence, having edged a 2-1 win there earlier in the campaign. Previous meetings between the sides had also been tight, something Kompany expected again.

"These games are always very close," he said. "We have won some, they have won one, but it could easily have gone either way. It will come down to details."

PSG coach Luis Enrique had made a similar point, with both teams aware of each other's strengths after recent encounters.

Kompany admitted there was no simple solution to stopping the French champions. "There are no miracle solutions," he said. "They are dangerous on the counter and in possession, but we have the same qualities."

Bayern head into the match as Bundesliga champions and German Cup finalists, while PSG are closing in on another domestic title as they chased back-to-back European crowns.

Kompany will watch from the stands due to suspension, while injuries ruled have out Raphael Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry. This opened the door for Jamal Musiala to start against the same opposition he faced during last year's Club World Cup clash, adding another layer of intrigue to a finely balanced tie.
