Barca boss Xavi after Shakhtar loss: Our destiny is still in our own hands

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández is not a happy man after his side's shock 1-0 defeat to Ukraine outfit Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League action on Tuesday evening.

There just hasn't been the right level of intensity from his team in recent weeks, and that was one of the main reasons why they have just suffered their first defeat of the season in the Champions League.

Speaking to the press after the final whistle, the Barça coach said: "We are at a bad point of the season, and it is showing on the pitch. We need to be self-critical because today was one of the worst games since I've been here. We need to regroup.

"We need to get our football back and play the way we are recognised for. I am going to need to work hard to recover my players' confidence."

A single point against Shakhtar would have been enough to ensure qualification for the knockout stage, but Barça are still very well poised to progress, and as Xavi says, "our destiny is in our own hands and we haven't lost anything yet."
