Aubrey Modiba notes Pyramids growth ahead of CAF CL final

Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Aubrey Modiba says Pyramids, though relatively new in the CAF Champions League, should not be underestimated.

The Egyptian outfit bought its franchise seven years ago, moving to Cairo to establish prominence following the recruitment of quality players both on the African continent and abroad.

It’s slowly paying off and could culminate in them winning the Champions League and the domestic title this season if things go their way.

Modiba believes they are worthy opponents over the two legs in the final.

"Compared to the last Pyramids team we played against, they signed a few players, and they are more experienced in the Champions League, hence why they're in the final.

"Even in their domestic league, they are competing with Al Ahly, so they clearly evolved," said a wary Modiba.

Pyramids proved how deadly they can be on their day after beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 on aggregate in the semifinals.

This is why Modiba is adamant they won’t be pushovers.

"We're expecting a really tough game against them. We all saw what they did in the Champions League semifinal, when they did really well, home and away. So, we just have to apply ourselves on the day and win our home game," declared Modiba.

This will be Modiba’s second continental final after playing for SuperSport United in the Confederation Cup against TP Mazembe in 2017.

He wants to be on the winning side this time around.

Sundowns were winners of the CAF Champions League in 2016, a milestone Modiba wants to share in, given the near misses over the years.
