Antoine Griezmann to leave Atletico Madrid for Orlando City in MLS switch

Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season to join Orlando City SC in the Major Soccer League (MLS).

The 35-year-old forward is in his second spell with Atletico and departs as the club's all-time leading goalscorer, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished career in Spain.

Griezmann has signed a two-year Designated Player contract through the 2027-28 season, with an option to extend until 2029, though the deal remains subject to a medical, international clearance and visa approval.

"I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City," Griezmann said.

"I look forward to making Orlando my new home, meeting the supporters, feeling the energy at Inter&Co Stadium, and giving everything I have to help the team achieve great things."

He will finish the current campaign with Atletico before officially joining Orlando when the transfer window opens in July.

Across spells with Atletico, FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad, Griezmann has scored 298 goals and provided 132 assists in 792 appearances, winning major honours including the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Copa del Rey.

He has continued to contribute this season, registering 13 goals and four assists in all competitions.

At international level, Griezmann was instrumental in France national football team's victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he won the Bronze Ball and Silver Boot, and also helped Les Bleus to the UEFA Nations League title.

He retired from international football in 2024 with 44 goals in 137 caps, ranking among France's leading scorers.

Orlando City owner Mark Wilf described the signing as a landmark moment for the club, while sporting director Ricardo Moreira said Griezmann's leadership and winning mentality would elevate the team.

Griezmann will now complete the season in Spain before beginning his new chapter in Florida in July.
