AmaZulu defender believes they can dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns

AmaZulu defender Thembela Sikhakhane has challenged all DStv Premiership teams to pull up their socks and stop Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sikhakhane was addressing the media on Tuesday ahead of their Carling Knockout Cup clash against TS Galaxy at Moses Mabhida on Sunday, 03 December.

He says the difference between them and Sundowns is hunger.

"There's no team that can't be defeated, we will defeat them at some point. I think we have to pull up our socks as other teams in the DStv Premiership. It's not like Sundowns plays with more than 11 players on the field.” Sikhakhane said.

“I think they just give it their all, more than us. I'm not saying we are not working hard enough or we don't have quality players, they have quality players, we have quality players. We are men just like them and we all have two feet.

“I think we need to change our mentality and not think that because Sundowns players are rich and well paid, they will always win the league. As small teams we need to change our mentality.

“Look at the English Premier League clubs from Aston Villa to Newcastle United and Brighton, they are not intimidated by who they are playing against. We can also change that by not being too intimidated by Sundowns on the field."

USuthu hosts TS Galaxy at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the second semifinal of the Carling Knockout Cup.

Sikhakhane wants to win trophies for the KwaZulu Natal outfit and hopes to face Richards Bay in the final.

"It's very important for us to win this. Our chairman and the rest of the AmaZulu staff members have been encouraging us to win some silverware. Also, as someone from KZN, if we face Richards Bay in the final, we would know for sure that at least the trophy is coming to KZN."
