Alexander Isak has finally spoken out on his uncertain future at Newcastle, admitting that leaving the club could be "in the best interests of everyone" as speculation about a blockbuster move to Liverpool intensifies.
The 25-year-old striker, who was the Premier League's second-highest scorer last season, has not featured in Newcastle's pre-season or their opening match - a goalless draw at Aston Villa. Rumours have swirled that Liverpool made a 110 million pound bid for Isak, which Newcastle rejected, holding out for a British transfer record fee of up to 150 million pounds.
On Tuesday, Isak broke his silence with a revealing Instagram statement after skipping the Professional Footballers' Association awards - where he was named in the Premier League Team of the Year.
"I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken," Isak wrote. "Promises were made, and the club has known my position for a long time. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now."
Reports suggest Isak was promised a new contract, but Newcastle delayed due to financial fair play restrictions-leading to a breakdown in trust.
Newcastle responded with a statement expressing disappointment but insisting no formal commitment was made for Isak's departure. "Alex remains under contract.
