Al Ahly to play Spanish giants Barcelona in annual Joan Gamper Trophy

Al Ahly have been invited to play Spanish giants Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The annual pre-season friendly hosted by the Catalans has seen some big names over the years, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, Arsenal and Boca Juniors to name but just a few.

This year the LaLiga Champions will take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly at the Camp Nou, on August 19.

Hussein Ammouta's club announced the news on their website, saying: "Al Ahly Football Company has finalized all agreements with Barcelona following a short visit to Spain by a delegation comprising board member Ahmed Hossam Awad and CEO Nayera Ali.

"During the visit, the two clubs agreed to play a friendly match on 19 August as part of the 61st edition of "La Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm".

"Al Ahly's delegation met with Barcelona officials, including Director of Communications Gabriel Martinez and Head of Strategic Projects Marina Yves, in the presence of Rio Sports representatives Mohamed Talaat and Karim Talaat.

"The meetings covered all organizational and logistical arrangements for the match in what both sides described as a friendly atmosphere reflecting the strong relationship between the two clubs.

"The agreement is part of Al Ahly Football Company's broader strategy to enhance the club's global profile and expand cooperation with leading European football clubs and sports organizations."
