AFCON winner Michael Seri proud to witness Africa’s football evolution

Ivory Coast midfielder Michael Seri says he feels privileged to have witnessed the growth of African football as he returns for his fifth Africa Cup of Nations.

The 34-year-old was part of the victorious Elephants squad at the previous tournament, hosted on home soil and has earned his veteran status.

Speaking to SABC Sport, the Saudi Pro League star reflected on the significant strides African football has made over the years, both on and off the pitch.

"The AFCON has improved a lot without a doubt. The pitches are better, and the players are better. Even Mozambique have got great technical players, and its great to test yourself against these guys."

Seri also had some advice for future generations who wish to make a name for themselves at the AFCON.

"In order to be consistent and successful at AFCON, you need to be consistent at your club. To play a lot of AFCONS you have to be very consistent over a long period of time, and you must look after your body as well."

Ivory Coast face Cameroon tonight in Marrakesh and Seri picked out where they will need to improve from their performance against Mozambique.
