AFCON: Patson Daka's late header rescues a point for Zambia against Mali

Patson Daka scored in stoppage-time as Zambia rescued a 1-1 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations opener against Mali at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Monday.

Mali had looked to have wrapped up maximum points when Lassina Sinayoko fired them ahead just after the hour mark but Zambia's pressure paid off late on.

The game had a fairly even feel to it as the teams settled into their first game of the continental tournament.

Mali were then awarded a penalty but El Bilal Toure saw his first half spot-kick saved by Zambia goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.

After a goalless opening stanza, Mali looked the more threatening after the interval and were duly rewarded with the game's opening goal in the 61st minute.

Sinayoko took advantage of some sloppy Zambia defending before firing in a powerful shot into the roof of the net from close-range.

Just as it looked as if Mali would start the competition with a win, Leicester City forward Daka popped up with a spectacular diving header in the second minute of injury-time.

The result means both teams trail early Group A leaders Morocco after the host nation overcame Comoros 2-0 in the tournament opener on Sunday.
