Ouaddou eyes ruthless box efficiency as he instils his philosophy at Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou insists his biggest priorities are to master efficiency in the final third, and also in the defence.

Ouaddou finds himself under pressure to return to winning ways ahead of tomorrow’s crunch MTN8 first leg semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates have lost their first two Betway Premiership matches of the season against Sekhukhune United and their former team, Marumo Gallants.

Questions have also been asked about his playing philosophy and here he explains it.

"I think, you know football, sometimes you have to be efficient in the box to score and not to concede. Of course like I told you, I would not go deep here to explain to you the philosophy but I will be happy to sit with you and to go deep,” Ouaddou said.

“We need to be efficient in the two boxes, this is the reality and it's what we are going to try to achieve in the upcoming games."

Despite losing to Marumo Gallants 2-1 in the midweek league game, Ouaddou says there are some positives that he can’t ignore, especially from the first half of that match, where they missed a lot of chances.

"I cannot throw away all the things that the players did well, for example if you go back to the previous game, in the first half my team deserved to score three goals by half time,” he added.

“So, as a technician, as a coach, you cannot throw away things that have been well done, we just have to improve for the next game."

Ouaddou has so far fielded 10 of the 12 new signings of Pirates in the first three games of the season, and he reiterates that every player is important, and every season has its own targets.

"Everyday when we wake up the only target is to make the best for that, to give the best of ourselves, to have the best training for our players, the best strategy for our club. So, everyday when we wake up, it's to get better and better."
