The Welsh winger surprised many when he traded his beloved red shirt for pastures new in the USA in January 2024. Zammit joined the NFL's International Player Pathway with the hope of realising a dream.
But the 24-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to confirm that he is headed back east across the Atlantic.
"I've decided to leave the NFL and return to rugby," he captioned.
"It's been a great experience, but it's time to come home. I've decided that this is the best time to make this decision to give myself time to get everything in place for next season.
"There's only one thing that's on my mind, that's coming back to rugby and doing what I do best.
"I can't explain how excited I am."
Rees-Zammit, who was capped 32 times for Wales and scored 14 tries, was initially signed by the Kansas City Chiefs but was cut after failing to impress. The Jacksonville Jaguars then picked up the speedster and he spent the 2024 season in the practice squad.
The former British and Irish Lion was twice added to the Jaguars' 52-man active roster, but failed to get on the park. A recent lower-back injury saw him miss several practices and placed his contract with the Jaguars in doubt.
