Springboks star as Sharks put Oyonnax to the sword in Challenge Cup

Springbok stars Ox Nche and Makazole Mapimpi both scored twice while Lukhanyo Am also got on the scoresheet as the Sharks thumped Oyonnax 38-7 in Saturday's Challenge Cup clash in Durban.

The six-try, bonus-point win leaves the Sharks on top of Group 1 with two wins from three matches and certain of a place in the knockout rounds of the European competition.

Nche picked up both of his tries inside the first 20 minutes as the home side took full advantage of some unforced errors from their French opponents. The burly Bok was on hand to apply the finishing touches on each occasion after some strong pressure play inside the Oyonnax 22.

Mapimpi was next over the line after winning the race for a ball kicked through by No 9 Grant Williams as the Sharks took a 19-0 lead into the break.

Oyonnax hit back via a Thibault Berthaud try from a rolling maul early in the second half to reduce the deficit to just 12 points, but that would be as close as the visitors got on the day.

Sharks captain Lukhanyo Am soon took advantage of a bit of good fortune near the line to score the Sharks' third and the match was all but over as a contest when blindside flanker Jeandre Labuschagne went over for his side's fourth try not long after.

Mapimpi would cross for his second try just before the hour-mark, with Curwin Bosch adding the extras, as the Sharks comfortably saw out the match despite a 69th-minute yellow card to front-rower Khwezi Mona pegging them back.
