Loftus to light up for Springbok Test as new technology takes centre stage

The historic Pretoria venue has undergone a multi-million-rand overhaul, replacing its old floodlights with a new LED system that will bring brighter, clearer lighting and enable spectacular light shows for supporters.

According to the Blue Bulls Company, which oversaw the project, the upgrade raises Loftus' lighting quality to the highest international standards, giving spectators better visibility around the stadium and providing clearer coverage for television audiences.

One of the biggest changes will be the introduction of custom-built colour showlights on the East and West canopies, allowing the stadium to create dynamic light displays for special moments before and during matches.

The project, completed in just under two months, saw all of Loftus' existing floodlights replaced.

The upgrade forms part of a long-term partnership between the Blue Bulls Company and South African lighting specialists Afrison, who will continue to maintain the system and provide technical support on match days.

"Loftus Versfeld is steeped in history, but keeping a world-class stadium relevant means embracing the future," said Blue Bulls Company CEO Edgar Rathbone.

"Launching these lights at a Springbok Test match is the perfect celebration of South African innovation."
