Hundreds join Bok coach Rassie Erasmus for Christmas morning walk in Cape Town

In what is fast becoming a Christmas tradition, a big, festive crowd joined Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus for a morning stroll along the Blouberg coastline on Thursday morning.

What began with just a few walkers last year drew a much bigger crowd this time around.

The coastal walk kicked off outside Doodles Beachfront Restaurant in Bloubergstrand, with hundreds of Bok supporters opting for fresh air, sea views and a chance to get to know the Bok coach on Christmas Day.

Erasmus had thrown out an open invite on social media earlier this month, encouraging any and all South Africans to join him.

Walkers headed roughly 3km out and back along the promenade, with plenty of photos and videos soon popping up online.

"We started this last year," Erasmus said during the walk. "The night before Christmas a few friends said let's go for a walk so we whatsapped and asked if anyone was lonely or if there were families that want to join.

"This year, I think we've doubled the crowd.

"There are no rules. We just get together and walk 3km out and 3km back, sign a few autographs, take a few photos and everyone just does their thing so there aren't really a lot of arrangements," he added.

"It's great to mingle with the people on the ground which I don't often get a chance to do. Very often the people are out there on the pavilion or even stuck at home and can't really get to us. I just want to say thank you to all of them."
