Emmanuel Tshituka at the double as Lions thump Newcastle Falcons

The Lions picked up their second straight victory in the European Challenge Cup with an impressive 35-13 win over Newcastle Falcons at Ellis Park.

The Gauteng outfit had begun their campaign last week with a 28-12 win at Perpignan and maintained their unbeaten record in the competition thus far this season with a sound victory on home soil.

Newcastle Falcons flyhalf Brett Connon had opened the scoring in the eighth minute by getting the visitors on the board with a penalty.

But the Lions hit back with tries from hooker PJ Botha, prop JP Smith, centre Marius Louw, and two from flanker Emmanuel Tshituka - all converted by flyhalf Sanele Nohamba.

Newcastle replacement Freddie Lockwood grabbed a try back just before the hour mark, converted by Connon, but ultimately it was another defeat for the Falcons, who lost their opening fixture against Montpellier Herault Rugby 24-19.

They were also down in numbers from the 36th minute, with yellow cards four minutes apart for both flankers - Josh Bainbridge and Philip van der Walt.

The result leaves the Lions on top of Pool 2 with nine points from two matches, three points clear of nearest rivals Benetton.
