Currie Cup: Lions boost play-off hopes with win over Pumas

The Golden Lions pulled off a stunning upset against the Pumas with a score of 26-10 at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Friday.

The victory was orchestrated by Lions scrumhalf Morne van den Berg, who dominated the game in the first half, setting up his team's win.

Despite dominating possession and territory in the cagey opening period, the Pumas failed to make their mark.

The Lions scored their first try in the 13th minute, thanks to Van den Berg's sniping run, and they didn't stop there.

The Lions scrumhalf went on to bag two tries, and centre Manuel Rass and replacement Brandon Thomson each scored one.

The victory boosted the Lions' playoff hopes, while the Pumas missed out on the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the standings.

The other scheduled game between the Free State Cheetahs and the Griffons was called off due to inclement weather.
