Bulls continue Currie Cup resurgence with win over Lions

The Bulls made it three Currie Cup wins on the trot as they downed the Lions 30-19 at Loftus Versveld on Saturday.

Despite both teams scoring three tries each, the Bulls took advantage of the Lions' mistakes with the reliable kicking skills of their experienced flyhalf, Morne Steyn.

Steyn successfully converted all three tries and also scored two penalties and a drop goal.

The Bulls were in total control in the first half, opening up a 20-0 lead thanks to converted tries from Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Chris Smit.

The Cheetahs were much improved in the second half, however, and briefly threatened a comeback after back-to-back tries from Conraad Van Vuuren.

But a 75th-minute try from lock Reinhardt Ludwig would seal the match for the home side, as the Bulls - who started the season with four straight losses - moved up to fourth place on the Currie Cup table.
