Boost for Bulls as Elrigh Louw is cleared to play Currie Cup semifinal

The Bulls have received a significant boost with the announcement that Elrigh Louw will be free to play in the Currie Cup semifinals after having his red card overturned.

During their 27-31 defeat to the Cheetahs last weekend, Louw was shown a red card for a dangerous clear-out.

Initially, referee AJ Jacobs missed the incident, but upon reviewing the replays and consulting with TMO Aimee Barrett-Theron, Jacobs decided to send Louw off.

However, following a disciplinary hearing prior to the upcoming playoffs, the red card has now been revised to a yellow card.

"Elrigh Louw has had his red card rescinded, which was issued in Round 14 of the 2023 Currie Cup campaign," said a statement from the Bulls.

"The red has now been replaced with a yellow card after a hearing was held - earlier in the week - with the player and representatives appearing before an SA Rugby committee.

"Louw was shown red at minute 37 of the clash against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday.

"He is [now] subsequently available for selection for this weekend's semifinal clash, against the same team, which will be played in Bloemfontein on Saturday 17, June 2023."

The Bulls and Cheetahs will meet again in Saturday's first Currie Cup semifinal, followed by the second semifinal in Durban between the Sharks and the Pumas.
