Antoine Dupont included in France Sevens preparation camp

France superstar Antoine Dupont took the first step towards his dream of featuring in the Olympic Games when he attended a Sevens training camp this week.

The French Rugby Federation revealed 17 players had been summoned to participate in a Sevens training camp in Marcoussis from 2-5 January in preparation for the Summer Olympic Games, set to be held in Paris in July.

However, Dupont is reportedly only available for only one day of the four-day camp. Club commitments appear to be the reason, as Toulouse host Lyon in a Top 14 clash on Saturday.

This fact was conceded by Sevens coach Jérôme Daret in the columns of L'Equipe in November.

"He will be there regularly with us until he is able or not to arrive," warned Daret.

"He has to feel good in the team. We need to work on things with him but I have no doubt about his potential. It has to suit him too. It's rugby sevens that selects you, not the coach. It's like the ocean. We have the impression that it is not dangerous even though danger can come from anywhere. Rugby sevens sparkles everywhere. You need a lot of humility, like Antoine and the other players do. The game reminds you to order all the time."

As for the mercurial Dupont, he hopes to learn more by watching the game in his spare time.

"I have a lot of calls with the coach to try to acquire skills, and I will try to learn by watching the game," he assured last month.
