Andre Esterhuizen focused on turning things around at the Sharks

It's been a Springbok season to remember for Esterhuizen, who delivered a couple of career-defining performances during the Boks' superlative season. But now, Rassie Erasmus' latest utility knife swaps his green and gold jersey for the iconic black and white of the Sharks this weekend.

Since he's been gone, the Sharks have seen the back of coach John Plumtree and welcomed JP Pietersen as interim coach. Esterhuizen, along with the returning Ox Nche, Bongi Mbonambi, Siya Kolisi, Grant Williams and Ethan Hooker, are eager to start a new era.

"A lot has happened while we were away," said the 31-year-old.

"But everyone is focused on the same task - getting us back to where we should be. This weekend's game is a big one, and that's all we're looking at.

"Whatever happens, we know we need to play rugby to the best of our ability. We've had honest conversations about the responsibility we need to take as players. Now that we're all back, our full focus is on turning things around and building momentum."

Esterhuisen was the first to admit that the Sharks haven't been playing well this season, where they have just one win in seven matches across two competitions.

"We haven't been up to scratch this season," he continued.

"This is an opportunity to see our game evolve and improve. Each week, we are motivated to play well, and we want the fans to come back and watch us. That is the goal of any rugby team."
