Team SA heads into the event at the National Stadium in Gaborone as defending champions in both the men’s 4x400m and 4x100m relays.
But for Nene, the bigger goal is to keep building momentum and ensure the team books its place on the global stage next year.
He says he is excited to reunite with his teammates and represent the country once again in national colours.
"It's just for most of us to see where we are, if everyone is healthy, and if we are aligning in terms of what we trying to achieve this year. It is a bit of an off-year, but we got a whole lot of opportunities to rack up some meddles," said Nene
"We've got World Relays, we've got Commonwealth Game, we've got Ultimate Championships, and we have the opportunity to qualify for World Championships next year."
"So I think it's just all about bringing the band of brothers together, just building that camaraderie, bringing that brotherhood, you know? Bringing that team setup again so we can tackle what we need to."
The 28-year-old multiple national 400m champion believes competing in neighbouring Botswana could work in South Africa’s favour, with minimal travel and familiar conditions giving the team an added advantage.
He is confident that Team SA will rise to the occasion in Gaborone.
Nene says the key to success will be unity within the squad, with all athletes aligned and fully committed to the team’s goals.
With just a week to go before the championships, he is encouraged by the preparations and believes the team is ready to deliver.
