Mustapha Cassiem, Daniella de Oliviera bag SA Hockey top honours

SA Hockey have announced the recipients of their national indoor hockey awards for the 2024 season, with Mustapha Cassiem and Daniella de Oliviera earning the Men's and Women's Player of the Year accolades respectively.

Cassiem, who has been a key figure in the national men's hockey arena for several years, enjoyed a dominant 2024, top scoring at the IPT and earning the MVP awards at both the Africa Cup and Nkosi Cup last year, with a total of 24 goals in just eight matches.

de Oliviera too played a starring role in the women's team, having been named IPT Player of the Tournament and continuing her masterful defensive displays against Siwtzerland and at the Nkosi Cup.

Other accolades went to Litha Kraai, who was named Men's Breatkthrough Player of the Year, having shown his capabilities with Western Province winning the IPT, and quickly rising to the national team and scoring on debut en route to SA defending the Nkosi Cup.

Cerian Fourie earned the Women’s Breakthrough Player of the Year after top scoring at the IPT and subsequently earning a recall to the national side, which she then helped to SA's first Africa Cup title in 10 years.

Micaela Roos, who officiated the Women’s A Section Final at the SA Indoor IPT and made her international debut soon after and went on to officiate the Asia Cup Final was named Umpire of the Year

Rounding out the list of winners is Robyn Morgan, Tournament Director at both the SA Indoor IPT and the Indoor Africa Cup in Swakopmund. as Technical Official of the Year.

SA Hockey noted that the awards were adjudicated by a panel comprising representatives from the High-Performance Committee, coaching staff, and media, and considered performances throughout the 2024 season.
