Leo Carreri is ready to showcase his evolution against Jackson Kaptein

Teenage boxing sensation, Leo Careri, expects fireworks when he meets Jackson Kaptein in the ring on 1 November in Sandton.

The super middleweight bout between Careri and Kaptein is scheduled for six rounds, should it go the distance. The fight is also part of a larger, mouthwatering fight card titled “Sandton Mayhem”, which is promoted by Aquila Boxing Promotions.

The bout presents a massive opportunity for Carreri to extend his undefeated pro-record and improve his stock as a young and hungry fighter.
He believes he has the skill set and the boxing IQ to defeat Jackson Kaptein come November 1.

"I'm expecting fireworks on the night. I have no doubt that it will be an explosive fight between two hard-hitting fighters.

"I just think I'm smarter, and overall the better boxer. Everything that I've been doing for years and years in the gym is going to show on November 1."

Careri last stepped foot into the ring in June when he conquered Aubin Ndala via unanimous decision, and the youngster is certain that he has evolved since his last fight against the Congolese.

"That fight was a blessing in disguise. Everyone wants to get their opponent out of there as quickly as possible, but the lesson I've learnt is patience and timing.

"Between June 21 and now, the gap is huge, so I definitely think you are going to see a way better Leo Careri come fight night."

Careri, who fights out of the world-class Apex gym in Sandton, made his pro-debut earlier this year, and it hasn’t taken him long at all to announce himself in the pro-scene, after putting together a remarkable amateur record.

There have been whispers that the 18-year-old might move up a weight class in the future, but for now, “The Chosen One” will remain at super middleweight, where he is very comfortable and dangerous as ever.

"I'm big for my current weight division, although I make it very comfortably. I'm only 18 years old, so in due course I do see myself going up to light-heavyweight, cruiserweight, and maybe even heavyweight one day.

"I want to be the king of all the divisions," the young lion asserted.

Careri admitted that he discovered his love for boxing after watching the Rocky movies as a little boy, and according to the young puncher, boxing chose him.

From the moment he picked up the gloves, Careri has been fighting much older opponents, and on 1 November, he will encounter another older and experienced fighter in the form of Jackson Kaptein.
