Oosthuizen, who watched Bafana Bafana from his farm in the United States is gearing up for The Open Championships. The 2010 Open champion is scheduled to leave the USA on 10 July.
Speaking during a Southern Guards GC media roundtable on Thursday, Oosthuizen said being a South African supporter is the best thing to be at the moment…
"Being a supporter of South African sport is probably the best spot we can be right now. I watched the game last night and jumped off my seat when we scored the goal. I watched the Mexico game and we weren't in a good spot at all after that one, but obviously the next two games were so much better.
"For us as the Southern Guards, if we can get one kid to dream of being a Southern Guard's player one day while making a difference - that's the goal. We really want the kids to look up to us."
Coincidentally, Oosthuizen won the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 2010, the same year Bafana Bafana last celebrated a victory at the FIFA World Cup victory - a 2-1 win over France in Bloemfontein.
South Africa have not had a men’s Major champion since 2012, when Ernie Els won The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes. The Southern Guards GC team boasts two of only seven South Africans who have won a Major title in Louis Oosthuizen as well as Charl Schwartzel.
Oosthuizen said he believes there is enough talent in the country to produce another Major winner, but conceded that it will take time...
