The seven-time Two Oceans Marathon and five-time Comrades Marathon champion is not taking anything for granted, with several talented runners expected to challenge for the title and the R40 000 first prize.
The Hollywood Athletics Club runner told SABC Sport that she does not consider herself the favourite, despite her impressive record and growing experience over the shorter distance.
"The 10km race dynamic is very unpredictable and I know that there will be strong competition on Sunday. Yes the previous winner is not here, but there are many other elite runners, so just to finish on the podium will be an amazing achievement for me."
Steyn says she is becoming more comfortable competing in 10km races, which have become an important part of her racing calendar.
The experienced marathon runner believes that lining up in these events regularly helps her improve and learn something new each time she competes.
"It's very exciting for me to line up in yet another 10km race because I always find the 10km race distance so challenging and so different to the marathons and ultra-marathons. These races play a very specific role in my preparation throughout the year.
"You have to challenge yourself at a much faster pace and you have to remain focused during each and every single second of the race."

The two-time Olympian has also shared some words of advice for the 12 000 runners who have entered Sunday's race, particularly those who will be taking on the 10km challenge for the first time.
Steyn believes that runners should enjoy the experience, trust their preparation and make the most of the opportunity to be part of one of the country's biggest road-running events.
With thousands of participants expected on the streets around Nasrec, the race promises to deliver an exciting morning for both experienced athletes and first-time runners.
