Confident in his ability, Mulaudzi plans to shatter this record at the upcoming Absa Run Your City 10km in Durban this weekend.

The much-anticipated race kicks off at Masabalala Yengwa Avenue at 8 am and finishes at Durban Beach Front on Sunday, with over 10,000 entries already sold out.

Coached by Richard Meyer, Mulaudzi is also chasing his second consecutive Run Your City 10km win after taking victory at the Cape Town leg in May, which marked the event’s tenth anniversary.

A win in Durban would mark his sixth overall victory in the series since 2024.

Having already secured two top three finishes this year, he is in excellent shape, healthy, and ready to compete for another podium spot.

“My goal for Durban is to run my own race and execute it well,” said Kabelo Mulaudzi.

“It won’t be easy with strong competition from athletes like Elroy Gelant, Stephen Mokoka, and others, but I’m aiming to run a personal best.

Making it onto the podium would be a bonus, and if everything goes right, I’d love to win. I’m in great shape right now and want to get close to the South African record—if conditions allow, I’ll even try to break it, especially with the pace expected from the Kenyan runners.

I believe the record is within reach this time. I want to plan my race smartly and pace it properly.

I feel stronger than I did when I won in Cape Town, where I set my personal best of 27:49 in May.

The field in Durban is stacked, and I expect a fast race.”

The Boxer Running Club star nicknamed “Mr Podium,” has overcome last year’s injury setbacks and now enters the weekend’s race as one of the favourites for the R30 000 prize.

The 27-year-old, who trains alongside former national 10km champion Andries Sesedi, is determined to live up to his reputation.

"I try not to put too much pressure on myself, but I know I always perform well in Durban,” he said. “With the strong field expected, I’m confident I can deliver a good race."
