The second seed required two hours and 34 minutes to complete the straight-sets success, although the scoreline did not fully reflect the resistance offered by the American.
Giron raised his game after a one-sided opening set, holding serve throughout the second without facing a break point and forcing a tie-break. Zverev, however, saved the only two break points he encountered before taking the breaker 7-4.
The 29-year-old seized control early in the third set by breaking in the second game. Although Giron responded by levelling the break deficit at 4-2, Zverev immediately struck back and closed out the contest behind a powerful serve that produced 17 aces while winning 77% (54/70) of his first-serve points.
"He [Giron] is somebody who plays fantastic on grass and he shows it every time he steps out on the surface," Zverev said.
"He has won tour-level events on the surface, I knew that I had to be a hundred per cent ready from the first point onwards and I am very happy to be through in straight sets."
Reaching the fourth round for the fourth time equals Zverev's best Wimbledon performance and makes him only the third German man in the Open Era, after Boris Becker and Michael Stich, to achieve that milestone at least four times.
Wimbledon remains the only Grand Slam where Zverev has yet to progress beyond the last 16, but he will have the chance to change that against 13th seed Jiri Lehecka, who defeated Jaume Munar 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
