Will Swart confident record Sinclair score boosts Olympic ambitions

Following his second consecutive SA weightlifting championship this past weekend, Will Swart believes posting the best all-time Sinclair score by a South African has set the tone for his Olympic ambitions.

Swart had targeted a 334kg total and came close in Mossel Bay, combining a150kg snatch with a 183kg clean and jerk for a 333kg total, enough to retain his national title.

Reflecting on the achievement, Swart told SABC Sport that the performance was a reward for the hard work invested in his preparation and an encouraging sign ahead of his Olympic qualification journey.

"I'm very happy to have retained my title, and I'm even more happy about becoming the nr.1 rated weightlifter in South Africa of all time. It's been a goal of mine for a long time and I'm happy that my hard work has paid off, but I want to keep this momentum going for the next Olympic Games."

Swart added that he was oozing with confidence heading into the competition.

"I always felt that hitting those numbers were possible and I'm especially happy about the 150kg snatch because that was the biggest snatch I've ever done in competition."

With a strict criteria to book a place at the Olympics for Team SA, Will reveals he is aiming even higher to be in LA.
