Spar Proteas to play Malawi in a test series during women’s month

The Spar Proteas will feature in a test series against Malawi in August and followed by Jamaica in January.

Newly appointed head coach Jenny van Dyk, who replaced Australian-born mentor Norma Plummer in December, will take on the bench for the first time.

Expressing her anticipation, van Dyk told SABC Sport about her excitement for the upcoming two test matches as she begins her tenure as the head coach of the senior national team.

''We are looking forward to it, it's something we've been working on for  quite a while. Not just Malawi and Jamaica - there's still a few other ideas we have,'' said van Dyk

Van Dyk plans to organize a training camp exclusively for 15 locally based players in preparations for the upcoming series in April.

However, she intends to integrate overseas-based players into the team for the actual test matches.

''As soon as April, we want to give them a little bit of time for the Easter weekend.

''The internationals will not come in for that camp, because they are starting with their leagues,'' added van Dyk.

Having ascended from coaching the Under-21 team to leading the senior squad, van Dyk expresses her intention to elevate select players to the senior Proteas team, she is scouting talent at the regional Africa Under-21 held at the University of Pretoria.
