Spain set up Davis Cup final with Italy after beating Germany

Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez helped Spain to a 2-1 Davis Cup semi-final Victory over Alexander Zverev's Germany on Saturday to set up a final against Italy.

Granollers and Martinez overcame Germain pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in a decisive doubles clash to send the Spaniards to their first final since 2019 for the six-time champions.

"I'm really proud of my players, they had to fight to get this far," said Spain skipper David Ferrer after the match.

"The most important is that we're in the Final. Of course, we're playing in Bologna. It's Italy's home," said Ferrer.

"We're going to be ready to fight and to have a chance to win. We believe that without Carlos (Alcaraz) we can do a great week. Now we are in the Final."

Spain's double pair dominated from the onset forcing the Germans on the backfoot at 3-1 in the opening set of their doubles clash, allowing only one break point in the final set that was saved at 5-3 before Martinez ended the match.

Earlier in the day, Pablo Carreno Busta handed Spain the advantage in the first match of the tie, beating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 7-6 (8/6) before World number three Alexander Zverev levelled the score with a 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (7/5) win over Jaume Munar,
