On-form Cian Oldknow eyes another podium in Ghana

Seasoned long-distance runner Cian Oldknow has set her sights on a podium finish in the 21.1km half-marathon at the 13th African Games currently underway in Accra, Ghana.

Oldknow is scheduled to depart for the competition formerly known as the All Africa Games on Thursday, with the event set for 22 March.

Despite having already taken part in several other local races this year, the 27-year-old is determined to challenge herself and secure a medal in unfamiliar West African conditions.

"I have never gotten a podium on a stage like that, so I would like to test myself and do my best. I'm really going to work hard and see what I can get out of it," said Oldknow.

Oldknow participates in races nearly weekly, yet she adamantly claims to feel no fatigue, and is eagerly anticipating each upcoming event, which also includes next month’s Two Oceans Marathon.

She has already secured her spot in the Olympic marathon and continues to receive invitations to a plethora of races.

"After my race at the African Games in Ghana on the 22nd, I'm back for the Two Oceans Marathon [in Cape Town]. I'm enjoying it, I really do love racing and competing, it just helps me test myself a little bit, especially training by myself," she added.

"So almost every other day, being in a race scenario most weeks just helps with a little bit of company on runs, and I think that does help."
