The Hollywood Athletics Club star lines up as the undisputed favourite for the R380,000 winner’s prize, having turned the race into her personal domain with six consecutive victories since 2018.
While the elite field features international firepower in American Courtney Olsen and a returning Adele Broodryk, the primary threat remains perennial runner-up Irvette Van Zyl and Lesotho’s Neheng Khatala.
“I’m going for number seven, but it’s never that simple,” said Steyn.
“The competition is strong, and if I don’t bring my best, someone else will take the opportunity.”
Steyn has conquered the race in various colours over the years, but her dominance remains the only constant in a field desperate to end her unbeaten streak.
Despite her iron grip on the event, the course record holder insists that past success offers no guarantees when the race begins in Newlands.
“I’ve done it before, so I know I can do it again,” said Steyn.
“But that doesn’t mean anything on race day. I have to give 110% because every athlete on that start line wants this title.”
If she delivers once more, Steyn will further cement her legacy as the greatest to ever conquer the Mother City's iconic ultramarathon.
