Comrades Marathon to open its race entries for 2024

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) will initiate the registration process for its upcoming race, allowing up to 23,000 participants to enter from Tuesday.

The entry deadline is set for December 11 or until the anticipated capacity is reached, with fees for next year's race remaining the same.

South African participants can register for R1 200, while those from the broader African continent will be charged R2000. International entrants will pay R4500 for the opportunity to participate.

The 87km Up-Run will commence at Durban City Hall and conclude at the Pietermaritzburg Race Course on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Ann Ashworth, the Operations Manager of CMA, expressed their commitment to spare no effort in ensuring the delivery of a world-class event on race day.

"We eagerly anticipate going above and beyond to create an unforgettable race day experience for our athletes," said Ashworth in an interview with SABC Sport.

"Qualification for the 2024 Comrades Marathon is valid from September 1, 2023, to May 6, 2024.

"The qualifying standards will remain consistent, necessitating the completion of a standard, officially timed 42.2km marathon in less than 04:50, or a 56km ultra-marathon in under 06:45."

The substitution process will run over the month of March and April 2024, with further details to be revealed closer to the time.

The reward for the first male and female runners to complete the upcoming race is R550,000.
