Commonwealth Games journey outweighs disappointment for Spies-Burger

Spies-Burger finished seventh in the women's 58kg division with a combined lift of 178kg, recording 77kg in the snatch and 101kg in the clean and jerk. 

Although she had hoped to post bigger numbers, the competition provided valuable lessons and memorable moments, she told SABC Sport.

"The experience was quite nice and I really enjoyed it, although I didn't hit the numbers I really wanted to. However, I'm still grateful to have received the opportunity to perform on a big stage."

She added that the competition has left her in two minds about walking away from the sport, suggesting she may chase Olympic Games qualification after all. 

It wasn’t all work, Spies-Burger reveals there was an opportunity to experience the Scottish culture before heading back to SA. 

"I can't complain about anything from getting there, to the hotel and the weather. I think we go the full Scottish experience of like warm weather and cold rainy weather all in one. I like the UK culture and all the heritage so I must say it was a really fun trip."
