Cacisile Sosibo targets a fast time in the Mbombela 10km race

South African road runner Cacisile Sosibo is embracing the competition brought by Ethiopian runners Tadu Nare and Salem Gabre in the Spar Women’s 10km Grand Prix series.

Throughout the series, which included Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Durban, Glenrose Xaba emerged as the fastest South African runner with three third-place finishes.

Sosibo achieved a fifth-place finish in 34:09 during the initial race in Cape Town and followed it up with a seventh-place finish in Gqeberha, completing the race in 33:10.

In the previous race held in Durban, Sosibo secured another fifth-place finish with a time of 33:32.

Looking ahead, Sosibo aims to improve her performance and secure a spot on the podium during the upcoming race in Mbombela, scheduled for Sunday, July 16th.

“Spar races have provided us with an incredible platform to compete against top-notch foreign runners, which motivates us South Africans to strive for faster times.

During our training sessions, we are well aware that we need to push ourselves to achieve exceptional results. The race in Cape Town posed challenges due to the rain, but I was satisfied with my fifth-place finish.

In Gqeberha, I faced a setback and dropped two positions, but I improved my performance in Durban. As I approach Mbombela, my goal is to secure a place among the top three finishers while aiming for a great time.

I am not intimidated by the competition and firmly believe that Mbombela will provide me with the perfect race opportunity this year. I have full confidence in my ability to push myself to the limit.

My focus is solely on the podium and achieving a fast time.  The Ethiopians consistently contribute to a high-paced race, and I anticipate the same intensity in the upcoming event,” Sosibo told SABC Sport.

Sosibo, a member of the Boxer Running Club is under the guidance of renowned athletics coach Michael Seme. Her training partners are marathon sensation Stephen Mokoka and prominent road runner Collen Mulaudzi in Tshwane.

“He (Seme) embraces me as his own, providing unwavering support and urging me to push my boundaries. With an impressive track record of producing talents like Caster Semenya and Mokoka, being in close proximity to him is nothing short of a blessing.

I am shy, but under the guidance of the coach, I flourish and unlock my fullest potential,” expressed Sosibo.
