As Bafana Bafana get their COSAFA Cup campaign underway, right-back Kegan Johannes is set for his debut in the senior men™s national team and says there™s an expectation as hosts to defend their trophy.

Coach Helman Mkhalele has taken over in the regional tournament, with Hugo Broos exempted by his employers, and the man nicknamed œMidnight Express from his playing days has picked a youthful squad.

The SuperSport United defender is also one of the new faces finding their feet at this level, and the call-up proves just how much of an impact he™s made in his first season with the Tshwane outfit.

With Mkhalele having declared the COSAFA Cup as a platform to help Bafana grow their pool of players with one eye on building a team for the Olympic Games qualifiers later this year.

Johannes is hoping those currently in camp can strike some chemistry and put their names in the hat to continue on this exciting journey, starting with Wednesday's quarterfinal clash against Mozambique.

"Look, whether it's Olympic or Worl Cup dreams, it's there and it's achievable. Obviously, it starts now so whether it's winning COSAFA or anything, we have to start building now," Johannes told SABC Sport.

"Coming into this [tournament], it's not going to be easy for us and we're also not going to make it easy for them, because it is our first game and there are expectations for us as well.

"Going into this match [against Mozambique], we're going to give it our all because we know it's all or nothing. So we have to go into this game and give it our best."
