Stellenbosch hope to stop the bleeding against Cape Town City

Local rivals Stellenbosch and Cape Town City will be locking horns in the DStv Premiership on Friday when they meet at Danie Craven Stadium.

The hosts are desperate for a win as they've been dragged into the relegation zone following two consecutive defeats.

Stellies' last home game was a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United on 14 January, when Chibuike Ohizu scored the decisive goal for the visitors.

Orlando Pirates then smashed the Cape Winelands side 4-1 last Sunday, leaving them 15th in the standings, only two points clear of last-placed Marumo Gallants.

Meanwhile, Cape Town are enjoying a decent run of form to start 2023. They've lost only one game this year, against SuperSport United, and are unbeaten in their last three.

An impressive home win over Pirates was followed by a 1-1 draw at Chippa United, and a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy last Friday.

Cape Town are in seventh position in the standings, and another win could see them climb as high as fourth.
