Second spot race going down to the wire - Jose Riveiro

The tussle for the Dstv Premiership second spot is heating up and Orlando Pirates have reduced the gap between themselves and SuperSport United to just two points after beating Amatsatsansa a Pitori 1-0 at Orlando Stadium last night.

Pirates who scored via a penalty from defender Thapelo Xoki, are now launching a serious fight for the second CAF Champions League spot.

They remain third on the log behind United and coach Jose Riveiro is happy to be catching up to the second spot.

"When we don't play against SuperSport and we get three points like today, the day after we check if they dropped some points so we can get close. Today we had the opportunity to do the job ourselves," he said.

With Kaizer Chiefs also needing a late penalty to beat Maritzburg United 3-2 last night and also tied on 37 points with Pirates to maintain their fourth spot on the log, it’s understandable when Riveiro says the battle is on for the second spot.

"It's going to be a difficult fight until the end. We have to capitilise these three points because as you said, it's much more than three points. It's still 21 points to play and I can guarantee you that SuperSport is going to fight until the end. The last three or four games of the season are going to be exciting for all of us," he concluded.
