Official: Mamelodi Sundowns and Andile Jali in new contract talks

Mamelodi Sundowns are currently discussing a new contract with one of the club’s key figures in Andile Jali, his agent has told SABC Sport.

The midfielder is now in the final six months of his initial agreement with the club and there has been no word yet from Downs on his future, although it does appear there are no major concerns that he could leave.

Speaking to the public broadcaster’s sport desk, the player's representative Mike Makaab of Prosport International confirmed talks for Jali to stay at Chloorkop.

“We are in the process of discussing a new contract with Mamelodi Sundowns and I am hoping to meet with them over the next few days in an attempt to put finality to it. I think it’s looking very positive,” the agent explained.

The 32-year-old has been an unused substitute in Downs’ previous two matches, including their win over Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership on Friday afternoon, but Makaab is adamant that there’s complete trust in Jali at the club.

“I think Andile has matured as a player and the fact that he’s been given the armband on occasion shows that he has good leadership qualities. I think he is a great and positive influence on the younger players coming through at the club,” he added.

“I’ve always said that he is a player for big moments. He is always the sort of player you can rely on when need something special – he’s got wonderful qualities.”
