Nedbank Cup wrap: Sundowns and Gallants ease into last-16

Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants both advanced to the Nedbank Cup last-16 with comfortable victories over Richards Bay and Magesi respectively.

Masandawana took control early against Richards Bay as striker Peter Shalulile opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Nkanyiso Zungu levelled matters from the penalty spot to keep the visitors in the hunt at 1-1.

After the break, the Brazilians dashed the KZN side's dream of causing an upset as Mosa Lebusa restored the lead immediately, before Shalulile completed his brace in the 55th minute.

Katleho Makateng produced a last-minute consolation goal for the travellers to end it at 3-2.

Meanwhile, Gallants killed their game against Magesi in the first half as they took a 3-0 lead into the dressing room.

Letsie Koapeng put the hosts in front from the penalty spot, and Judas Moseamedi and Tebogo Thangwane found the back of the net to knock the stuffing out of Magesi.

The away side pulled one back just shy of the hour mark but it was not enough to turn it around as they lost 3-1.
