Gallants get CAF Confed Cup campaign underway with win over Libya's Al-Akhdar

Marumo Gallants FC got their CAF Confederation Cup campaign off to a flying start with a comfortable 3-1 win over Libyan outfit Al-Akhdar at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

Al-Akhdar had the first foray into opposition territory and Ahmed Amhimmid fired wide of the left-hand post after Ededem Essien has supplied the pass.

Gallants scored against the run of play after five minutes when Lesiba Nku powered one into the top right hand corner. The Gallants winger was in search of a double and soon after struck at goal when he was fed by Celimpilo Ngema but it was straight down the throat of Al-Akhdar goalkeeper Miftah Altaeb.

Ranga Chivaviro made it two in the 21st minute when he finished off a move with Katlego Otladisa at the heart of it. The visitors threatened with ten minutes to go before the half-time break when Haytham Mohamadi's delivery was headed narrowly wide by Salim Baled.

The second half continued to see Gallants control the game and after Ngema and Chivaviro went close the latter would indeed grab his brace in the 57th minute when he arrowed the ball into the bottom right corner from outside the box.

There was a glimmer of hope for the Libyan side when Akram Alzawi pulled one back with a left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom left corner after being assisted by Salim Baled with a headed pass but that would be mere consolation for the North Africans.
