Maduka to take Maritzburg to PSL DRC over dismissal

Former Maritzburg United coach John Maduka is taking the club to the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber over unfair dismissal after he was sacked for poor results last month, SABC Sport can reveal.

The Team of Choice have since appointed Fadlu Davids as his replacement, but Maduka is understood to be of the view that he could have turned things around.

Chairman Farook Kadodia pulled the trigger on Maduka early last month with the club rooted to the foot of the DStv Premiership table, with just two wins from 13 matches, although they are tied on points with Sekhukhune United.

Kadodia initially signalled a warning to the coach during an interview on Sports Night Amplified with host Andile Ncube weeks prior, after Maritzburg had been humiliated 3-0 by Stellenbosch FC in October.

“I am expecting at least six points from the next four league games and then we can take it from there,” Kadodia said, in part, on Metro FM at the time.

Maduka only managed two points since then, while his side were also thrashed 5-0 by defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns before the PSL recess.

According to information gathered by SABC Sport, the coach is seeking retribution through the resolution chamber and it remains to be seen how the matter will unfold and whether there will be an order issued in Maduka’s favour.

Should he win the case, he is likely to be paid a handsome settlement rather than being reinstated.

Kadodia was not available for comment and his phone rang unanswered following a number of attempts to get the club’s perspective prior to publishing.

Maduka also did not want to discuss the matter publicly.
