Farook Kadodia calls Fadlu Davids the 'prodigal son' after his return to Maritzburg United

Maritzburg United chair Farook Kadodia is delighted to have coach Fadlu Davids back at the helm because his heart is with the Team of Choice.

Davids is not only a former Maritzburg United player, but has also served the club as a caretaker coach, assistant coach, and head coach in the past.

The 41-year-old's most successful spell with United was between August 2017 and December 2018. He led the Eastern Cape outfit to the Nedbank Cup final in 2018, where they lost to Free State Stars 1-0.

Kadodia is looking forward to Davids' new reign at the club and believes he will be a pleasure to work with once again.

"Fadlu started training on Tuesday, probably a week earlier than most teams and he knows what is at stake and this break will help him prepare the team according to his standard," said Kadodia, as quoted by Sowetan Live.

"I think we gave very careful thought. Fadlu was unlucky in the last spell he was at Maritzburg. He is the prodigal son; he played for the team, he coached the club and he was the assistant coach.

"He took the team to the Nedbank Cup final, so there are a lot of good things behind Fadlu. So, it will be easy for us to work with someone we know from the past and who has a very high pedigree of good ethics.

"I always had a good relationship with him and I know his heart is with Maritzburg, and I told him that there is an opportunity at Maritzburg and he must come back home and he was excited to be coming here."
