Young gun Dewald Brevis lights up Newlands in SA20 opener

South African starlet Dewald Brevis was in devastating form as the batter guided MI Cape Town to a bonus-point eight-wicket victory over Paarl Royals in the opening game of the inaugural SA20.

The 19-year-old Brevis smashed 70 not out off just 41 balls, including five huge sixes, as the home team reached their target of 143 with more than four overs to spare to claim five points for the win.

Brevis and Ryan Rickelton (42) put on 90 of the first wicket inside 11 overs to break the back of the 143-run target.

England international Sam Curran came in at number three and carried on the momentum with 20 off 16 deliveries before he was dismissed just before the end.

It was you Brevis though that kept on entertaining a capacity crowd at Newlands as he showed what a promising future he has in the game.

Earlier, the Paarl Royals laboured to a total of 147-7 in their 20 overs with England captain Jos Buttler top-scoring with 51 off 42 balls.

England paceman Jofra Archer was the best bowler for the hosts as he picked up 3-27 while fellow Englishman Olly Stone took 2-31.

MI Cape Town get five points from the encounter with their next match on Friday at Newlands against the Durban Super Giants.
