Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga fails to recover from injury, ruled out of IPL

Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled for the entire Indian Premier League season after failing to recover from a hamstring injury, with Lucknow Super Giants set to name a replacement.

Hasaranga has not played any cricket since tearing his left hamstring during Sri Lanka's opening game at the T20 World Cup in February.

It was hoped that the 28-year-old would recover in time to play a part in the IPL campaign with the Super Giants but that has now been vanquished.

"We are preparing for the fact that he isn't going to be able to join us," Super Giants director of cricket Tom Moody said.

"We are looking at replacements, that should be announced in 24-48 hours."

Despite Hasaranga absence, the Super Giants have made an impressive start to the 2026 IPL tournament with two wins in their opening three matches.

They next have a home fixture against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
