Hope’s score from just 68 deliveries surpassed the 116* posted by Kyle Verreynne also for the Capitals in Season 2 of the competition.
While he shone with the bat, Lungi Ngidi also contributed to the win with the ball as he secured the tournament’s first ever hat-trick.
Hope says they now need to kick on from there when they play at home.
"I think any cricket crowd would have enjoyed that game, that's what you wanna see in a cricket match. Guys scoring runs, bowlers taking wickets and coming on to the last three balls essentially,” Hope said.
“So, anyone watching cricket wants to see games like that, it's a great game to play, great game to be a part of. Hope we can give the competition a bit more sparkling wins like that and as a Pretoria team, it's a great momentum starter.
“I think we just need to shift that momentum that we have away from home and start winning some games at home."
Hope usually comes in at three for the Capitals, but surprisingly opened the batting in Durban.
He revealed that he was only asked to come in at the top of the order the night before, and says he did what he had to do.
"Well I was asked to do it yesterday, if I'm comfortable doing it, regardless of what's happening, if they ask me to open in batting, they ask me to bat at 9 or 10, I'm gonna try to be the best number 9 or 10,” he added.
“I just think if I get a lot more deliveries especially in power play then I can give myself a better chance to just go in as deep as possible and set up the game for the batters and the guys at the back who tend to finish the game well.
“Today was just one of those days where I was told that I'm gonna open the batting, just gotta do it."
