Records tumble as India record their highest ever ODI run-chase against Windies

Chasing a mammoth target of 406, after the Windies hit struck their highest ever ODI total, India made light work of reaching the target as Gill struck a career-best unbeaten 223 while Rohit Sharma scored 101 as the home side chased the score with more than six overs to spare.

West Indies had three centurions in their innings as John Campbell (101), skipper Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) surpassed milestones as the tourists plundered 405-7 in their 50 overs after India had elected to bowl first.

The Caribbean outfit might have thought they were in with a good chance of leveling the series going into the final contest, but Gill and Rohit had other ideas as the India openers smashed a partnership of 255 in 26 overs.

Rohit went to his 35th ODI century while for Gill it was his 11th hundred as the pair set the perfect platform for India to make their own history.

The Windies eventually made the breakthrough when Rohit trapped lbw by seamer Jayden Seales in the 27th over.

Virat Kohli hit a quick-fire 29 from 19 balls but the India number 3 was dismissed by Shamar Joseph to leave the home side 320-2.

Gill kept hammering away at the other end and reached the fastest ever double-century in ODI cricket, coming off just 117 deliveries, while Ruturaj Gaikwad (31 not out) was at other end as India aced the run-chase in 43.3 overs.
