Former Proteas wicketkeeper Mark Boucher has been appointed as the new head coach of MI Emirates ahead of the ILT20 that starts on 22 November in the UAE.

Boucher has previously been involved with the MI franchise, having coached Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2023 and 2024, while also taking on the same role with MI New York who he led to the MLC title in 2025.

The 49-year-old also took charge of the Proteas at the highest level from December 2019 until November 2022, while he has an extensive playing career in international cricket having played 147 Tests, 295 ODIs and 25 T20Is before retiring in 2012.

The auction for the ILT20 will take place in Dubai on Wednesday ahead of the fifth edition of the tournament.

MI Emirates need to acquire four UAE players, seven players from Full Member teams, and one each from an Associate country.
