IPL: Punjab Kings chase down target to outclass Chennai Super Kings

Punjab Kings produced a clinical batting performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets, chasing down a target of 210 with relative comfort.

Chennaiâ™s total was set up by an assured innings from 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who struck 73 at the top of the order.

His knock gave the hosts early momentum, but Punjab managed to contain the scoring through the middle phase.

Late contributions from Shivam Dube and Sarfaraz Khan pushed CSK to 209 for five â” a total that looked competitive without being out of reach.

Punjabâ™s response was defined by intent from the outset. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh attacked the new ball, forcing Chennai onto the defensive and ensuring the required rate never became a concern.

Once the platform was laid, captain Shreyas Iyer took control of the chase with a composed half-century, rotating strike effectively while punishing loose deliveries. Chennai struggled to build pressure or take wickets in clusters, allowing Punjab to remain in command throughout.

The finishing job was completed calmly by Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh, who guided the visitors home in the 19th over.

The result underlined Punjabâ™s strong start to the campaign, while Chennai were left to reflect on missed opportunities with the ball after posting a substantial total.
